Designing for Social Equity: Women’s & LGBTQ Rights

This Project Uses: Adobe Illustrator

I wanted to discuss and inform people important messages through creative posters. I wanted these posters to speak volumes on current world topics. In this project, I was able to inform new audiences to the issues pertaining to both Women’s rights and LGBTQ+ rights internationally.

While researching on Global Goals, I decided to focus on International Women’s Rights and persuade the viewers to learn more at Global Goal’s website.

Poland is currently facing many new laws that inhibit the LGBTQ+ community to embrace their identity. In southern portions of the country, LGBT-free zones are enforced, leaving many members of the queer community shunned by society.

This project includes:

  • Illustration Creation & Ideation

  • Final Posters with Stickers

Poster One: Mood Board

Poland is currently facing many new laws that inhibit the LGBTQ+ community to embrace their identity. In southern portions of the country, LGBT-free zones are enforced, leaving many members of the queer community shunned by society.

Sketching & Brainstorming

Through creating posters, I was able to take this important message and give it to audiences to learn more to help this ongoing issue.

Each one of my sketches include the idea of incorporating QR codes that sends the reader to the official Carrd site, where the queer community can learn more on the issue.

Going Digital & Final Products

Ni Strefy Wolna is a phase that translates to “No Free Zones”, which is in response to the many LGBT-Free zones in Poland that shun queer people from participating in LGBTQ+ activities such as relationships, PDA, and pride-related events.

Our final poster contains bold imagery as well as negative symbols to drive home to the issues in Poland to international audiences. This is followed by the QR code with a call to action.

Both sticker designs. Templates provided by RedBubble.

Poster Two:

Sketches

All of the sketches showcased incorporate different ideas of international symbolism and culture. Through these sketches, I was able to go with sketch two for its composition, and to incorporate the cultural themes showcased in sketches four and five.

The call to action provided will come in the form of a slogan, followed by a link to Global Goals where viewers can learn more about both Women’s rights along with other global issues.

Final Poster

In the end, I wanted to blend all of the ideas I wanted to push forward into one coherent composition. The following poster showcases stylistic text that draws your eyes towards a female reading.

This geometric-heavy poster encapsulates the current global issues where women aren’t getting the proper education that they deserve in third-world countries. The current call to action comes from the bottom of the poster that leads viewers to Global Goal’s official website to learn more.
